Product Description

The Compex Performance US is our newest muscle stimulator recommended for the fitness enthusiast and/or the athlete who engages in frequent competition. It features a total of 5 programs with 5 levels of progression to help competitive athletes achieve the highest level of performance.

  • Endurance

Increases muscle capillarization (blood flow) and establishes a working regimen for oxidative power of endurance muscle fibers. Targets slow-twitch muscle fibers.

  • Resistance

Builds muscle size, strength and density, optimal for toning muscles. Targets both slow and fast-twitch muscle fibers.

  • Strength

Targets fast-twitch muscle fibers. Increases sheer strength and works the muscles at maximum power with less risk of injury to joints and tendons and virtually no cardiovascular or mental fatigue.

  • Prewarm Up

Does not contract the muscle. Runs at a low frequency and increases blood flow and oxygenates the muscles prior to a workout or competition. This program is recommended if there is any risk of cramp.

  • Active Recovery / (Training Recovery)

Produces a muscle twitch to clear lactic acid, increase blood flow, promote muscle relaxation and enable a faster recovery from muscle soreness and fatigue. This program is best used right after a training session.

    • Hi,
Since this model doesn't include explosive strength as an available training program, can this model benefit a sprinters explosive strength? Primarily the fast twitch muscle fibers, if so how?
    • Thank you for Contacting Compex USA. You will still gain benefits as a sprinter as the Resistance program will recruit Fast Twitch muscle, as well as the Strength Program will recruit the more Explosive Strength Fibers as well. I have attached the link to our manual program descriptions to learn more about what each setting can do for you. https://www.compexusa.com/user-manual/program-descriptions

    • I own a Fit 3.0 model - does it have an oxygenation function or similar feature?
    • European Compex products, such as the Fit 3.0 are different than the US versions as they also provide pain management. The Pre-warm up program does increase blood flow that oxygenates the muscles prior to a workout.

    • Hi,

I purchased this unit after my doctor recommended buying an Electrical muscle stimulator for home use due to my atrophied quadriceps after knee surgery (5 months ago). After researching some units, I decided to go with a Compex one.

Now I see that it is not to be used on atrophied muscles? Isn't this an electrical muscle stimulator?

I haven't heard of an electrical muscle stimulator not to be used on atrophied muscles. How is Compex different is this regard?

Why should not be used in atrophied muscles? Is this because of a safety issue or simply because compex can't assure that it will strengthen a wasted muscle?

    • The Compex is intended to stimulate healthy muscles in order to improve or facilitate muscle performance. It is to be used by adults only. The Compex is not intended for adjunctive therapy in the treatment of medical diseases and conditions of any kind. None of the Compex stimulation programs are designed for injured or disease afflicted muscles. Its use on such muscles is contraindicated. The work imposed on the muscles by the Compex Sport Elite programs is definitely not suitable for rehabilitation and physiotherapy. The Compex electrical impulses allow the triggering of action potentials on motoneurones of motor nerves (excitations). These excitations of motoneurones are transmitted to the muscle fibers via the motor endplate where they generate mechanical muscle fiber responses that correspond to muscle work. Depending on the parameters of the electrical impulses (pulse frequency, duration of contraction, duration of rest, total session duration), different types of muscle work can be imposed on the stimulated muscles. The Compex may therefore be considered a technique of muscle training, not rehab

    • If I have tendonitis in my shoulders would this machine help with that or is it the other type of machine that is used for pt. if so would it be ideal for me to use this while I take some time off of doing shoulder lifts so my tendonitis can heal. And also which model would be best for that purpose.
    • The Compex will not help with shoulder pain but you can use it instead of working out in the gym until your shoulder injury heals. All of the units have strength programs. The Edge has 2, the Performance has 3 and the Elite has 4.

    • Are you able to use the complex EMS on pectoralis and other chest muscles?
    • You do not want to place an electrical stimulation over the heart therefore we do not have any programs for the the chest muscles.

    • Is there a program for people doing crossfit, weight training and running? How would I use the compex unit? On days I don't hit the gym. I am usually at the gym 5-6 times a week. I was thinking of the getting the one with 5 programs. Is there one for weight lifting and running?
    • You would be thinking of the Performance Unit. That Units programs are broken down below.

Performance Unit - Training Programs (5)
      (1) Warmup Pre-Warm Up
      (3) Strength Endurance / Resistance / Strength
      (1) Recovery Active Recovery

It has 3 strength programs one for endurance(running), Resistance and Strength(Weight Lifting). there are sport specific program guides on the CompexUSA website.

    • I am looking at one of the Compex models and also the Marc Pro - can you tell me what the differences are - since both are muscle stimulators? I had done a lot of running in the past but I also had a lot a injuries as well and the last few made me stop running- stressed fracture, bone spur and misaligned hip and bad knee. So I started weight training program to lose weight and tone the muscles. Now I want to take it to the next level of improving strength - so I am doing something very closed to crossfit - so back squat, front squat , pull ups(suck at it), hand stand pushups - shoulder strength needed - etc...so i need a device that will strengthen my muscle groups and muscle recovery faster - If i chose compex, which one would u suggest- because the sports illustrated says nothing about weight training
    • The FDA has cleared Compex for the following (6) indications:

    • I am looking into beginning an electrical muscle stimulation regiment while I work. Can I expect muscle tone & gains (hypertrophy & strength) after weeks of use? I would like to use this in multiple areas (legs, chest, back, and abdominal). Will the Performance or Sport Elite allow me to stay active while in use?
    • Compex enables you to achieve enhanced muscle performance. With Compex you can...
      Build muscle strength and size
      Improve power
      Increase endurance
      Optimize muscle recovery
Get the ultimate muscle warm up
In order to achieve the full benefits of the Compex you should work out on your own as well to achieve what you are calling hypertrophy, The Compex alone will not do it. Because this is used in conjunction with training you can be active while using it.

    • My left knee has been bone-on-bone for over 30 years after two hockey injury surgeries (both MCLs snapped / cartilage removed). I walk two strong Huskies 3-4 miles a day up and down hills, and some days the pain is severe. I want to strengthen my quad to protect the joint better and if possible get some pain relief. I've considered an ARPwave treatment program. Which of your products might help? Also, are European models like mi-Fitness going to be available soon?
    • Sorry to hear about your knee injury. The various strength programs found on Compex will help to build muscle mass as these programs contract the muscle. The Active Recovery program will help increase blood flow to the area, clear lactic acid, promote muscle relaxation and it also helps to release endorphins, which are your body's natural painkillers.

    • Hi, I play basketball and i am wondering how many inches will i gain on my vertical? Also how long does it take for results?
    • The purpose of the Compex Sport Elite & Compex Sport Explosive Strength program is to increase the speed with which maximum muscle strength can be supplied. It is designed to improve performance in sporting activities of very brief duration such as jumps, sprints and throwing. Your vertical inch gain depends on your genetics, how often you train and the intensity you train at. Results like any other strength training program can be seen in 4-8 weeks.
  • Blake at 5/27/2010 11:11 AM
    • What's the difference between this muscle stimulator and a TEN's unit?
    • TENS the acronym for Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation. A TENS unit is prescribed for both acute pain and chronic pain conditions and sends electrical impulses to certain parts of the body to block pain signals from being transmitted to the brain. It is used at the sensory level and does not cause muscle contraction.
Compex Muscle Stimulators (EMS) when used for strength training sends a signal to the motor nerve of the muscle causing it to contract and build muscle mass. The Active Recovery program uses specific low level frequencies to increase blood flow, remove lactic acid, release endorphins and promote muscle relaxation.
  • Ed at 4/21/2010 12:59 PM
    • Are there any long-term risks associated with muscle stimulation?
    • No. Muscular electrostimulation and electrotherapy in general have been practiced for many decades with no reported problems. Compex also holds an important liability policy.

The difference in leg endurance, particularly the calf and quad muscles is amazing and I've only been using for about 30 days. Can't wait to see where I am in six months. If you are training for life or for competition, you need this. Well worth the investment
